1. Printify

If you’re one to love having choices when making a purchase, I recommend checking out Printify. They’re known in the market for having an extensive range of POD products to design that are also affordable than most.

For coasters, there are four choices to go through. They’re more or less the same so you should compare other aspects like prices, shape and material.

Other unique items you can find on the site that’s related to coasters are printed mugs, tumblers, water bottles, napkins and even cutting boards. You can sell all of these in your store to increase average order value!

Here’s a sample of a Printify coaster I created using a design downloaded from Creative Fabrica. I searched for a coffee design that would look nice when printed on a coaster – this one definitely gives a warm vintage feel!

2. Printful

It’s pretty common to find less products on Printful compared to Printify – especially for non-apparel products. Printful carries a lot more apparel choices and offers multiple printing techniques e.g. DTG and embroidery.

Their cork-back coasters are sold as one piece so unless you’re staying on your own and only need one coaster, don’t forget to add more to your cart before checking out. I find it reasonable to get at least four or six pieces of coasters that are printed in the same design – at any one time!

In a glance, you can see that Printful’s coasters are slightly more expensive than Printify’s – even with the savings you’ll enjoy with Printful Growth and Printify Premium subscription.

3. Gooten

Don’t want to work with Printify but want more choices of kitchen accessories to sell in your store? You should head to Gooten.

Most products on Gooten are quite similar to what you see on Printify but choices are less. The website is mainly catered to experienced print on demand sellers so I would only suggest you sign up with Gooten if you have an existing POD store.

Unlike Printful, Gooten’s coasters come in a set of four or six units – smarter choice I believe.

Gooten provides design templates in PSD and JPG formats to refer to before you start designing. Coasters are straightforward products to design compared to t-shirts or mugs, but it is still good to be precise!

4. Prodigi

Prodigi’s square coasters are slightly bigger than the ones I’ve listed above at 3.8″x3.8″ (instead of the usual 3.75″x3.75″). As they’re a POD based in the UK, prices are listed in GBP and most products are shipped from the country.

Thickness of coasters are quite the same throughout most fulfillments at only 4mm. You wouldn’t want it to be thinner as it will be much easier to get damaged. Prodigi’s coasters are sold as a single, set of two, four or six.

If you’re unsure of Prodigi’s quality, you can test out some of their paper products by ordering their sample pack. Coasters are made of paper so the mini samples will be a good reference for you to make your purchase.

5. Redbubble

Looking to start print on demand on the side and don’t want to be spending too much time or money building an ecommerce store? You can look into print on demand marketplaces like Redbubble.

Their catalog is not as extensive as the white label companies I’ve listed above but there’s a nice mix to explore. You can still design coasters and a ton other things with just a few clicks.

Redbubble’s coasters are sold ready in a pack of four so customers won’t have the choice to purchase it as a single. Prices are also quite affordable at about $16 without discounts – your profit margin as a seller is typically 20% (about $3+).

You can increase your profit margin on Redbubble but it will be reflected with an increase of selling price i.e. your price will be higher than other sellers that sell for 20% profit. Not recommended if your designs are easy to compete with!

6. CustomCat

Another alternative to Printify and Printful is CustomCat. You can subscribe to their CustomCat PRO subscription for $30/month to save 20%-40% off product prices which makes it quite comparable.

There are 20 background color options you can choose from when designing the coasters. Instead of making your designs in 10 different colors, you can make them in two main ones e.g. black and white. By doing so, you can use the black colored designs on brighter backgrounds and the white designs on darker ones.

Easy and efficient!

7. Zazzle

If you love purchasing custom products with personalization (popular on Etsy), you would also love offering the same personalization to your customers.

A marketplace that allows you to do so on most of their products is Zazzle. There’s a much wider catalogue you can explore on the site compared to any other marketplaces and prices are reasonable.

By selling your designs on Zazzle, you don’t need to be setting up an Etsy store to sell personalized gifts! There’s also a long list of coasters you can design on Zazzle including acrylic, glass and marble ones – not available on any other sites in this list.

8. Printed Mint

Printed Mint is a fulfillment you can work with on Printify but as you can see down below, not all of their products can be found on Printify’s catalog. There’s only two types of coaster you can design on Printify that’s from Printed Mint.

Most of the time, sourcing Printed Mint’s products directly from their website can be cheaper. You can also tap into their custom packaging feature that lets you customize product labels, colors of crinkle paper (that goes into a box) and ribbon styles for each order.

There’s a choice of cork-back, neoprene-back or sandstone coasters on the site and the ones that come in a pack can be designed individually. So imagine making a cute set of four coasters in the same theme but not with the same exact designs!

9. Bags Of Love

If you’re based in the UK and don’t like what Prodigi has to offer, you can explore Bags Of Love as an alternative. Aside from the usual square cork-back coasters, there are leather and coin tray ones on the site!

Leather ones make a nice premium gift and as someone who loves buying things that last longer, I would go with leather. The durability of course varies with usage and you should avoid using it with iced drinks (prone to water damage).

BOL’s leather coasters are made of Nappa leather with a black flock backing. You can choose between 5 different stich colors and there’s also vegan friendly options. They are sold as a single piece and for the price, it’s definitely on the costly side.

10. Contrado

Like what you see on BOL but want to order from the USA? Head to their parent company’s site, Contrado.

Although they’re originally from the UK, Contrado has printing locations in the USA and offers express shipping within the country (as fast as 1-2 days post manufacturing). Prices are also listed in USD so you have a better grip.

Contrado and BOL shares mostly the same products in their catalog, including the leather and cork-back coasters – not applied to coin tray ones. If you’re trying to justify the premium price, just remember that the leather coasters are handmade!

11. Inkthreadable

On Inkthreadable, you only have the option to sell coasters in a pack of four. They’re a POD company that’s popular in the UK but prices can be listed in seven other currencies aside from the GBP.

Designing the coaster on Inkthreadable can be slightly tricky than others. As you can see in the image below, the template is divided into four main square areas. The system only accepts a single image upload so you’ll need to make a design for the four coasters in one single image that will be expanded to all corners.

Therefore, I recommend downloading the coaster design template (available on product page) for you to refer to before making the designs!

12. Inkedjoy

Looking for coasters that are much cheaper than others I’ve listed above? You should check out fulfillments like Inkedjoy.

Be mindful that prices shown does not include shipping charges and it can be quite pricey to ship from China if you’re just ordering a single unit. Of course, the weight of the coasters play a part but you’ll need to shop smart!

Depending on the shipping option you go for (there’s 12 choices), it will also take a minimum of 5-8 days (express shipping) for your orders to be shipped to the USA. It can also take as long as 20 days (standard)!

Other than the common square and round coasters, you can design heart-shaped ones on Inkedjoy for the same price. All are made with heat-resistant polyester fabric top and comes with black non-slip neoprene rubber backing.

13. 99DIY

Another affordable fulfillment you can explore for coasters is 99DIY. Their coasters are similar to the ones you see on Inkedjoy but it’s much cheaper (by about half the price!)

99DIY doesn’t carry the usual square ones so you’ll need to source elsewhere if you prefer those. Just like Inkedjoy, their prices do not include shipping charges and shipping time can take as long as 10-15 working days from China.

Working with oversea print on demand companies only make sense when you’re ordering in large quantities!

Keen on working with a POD marketplace that’s based in the USA? Check out CafePress, one of the oldest websites for print on demand sellers.

The site works just like Redbubble and Zazzle but they’re only accepting sellers from a specific list of 26 countries (link below) and ships to the same countries only. As a seller, you can offer personalized designs to customers for some products on CafePress, including coasters.

Their square coasters come with four felt pads to protect surfaces from scratches and is slightly bigger than others – measuring 4.25″ x 4.25″.

15. DropShipCN

If you want to design marble coasters but need an alternative to Zazzle, DropShipCN’s range of coasters would impress you. They’re a fulfillment based in China like both Inkedjoy and 99DIY so prices are slightly cheaper.

What makes it better is that the prices you see include free standard shipping so unlike the prior two, you don’t need to calculate total costs further.

DropShipCN’s marble wood coasters are 0.5″ thick, made using both acacia wood and white marble. Your design will be engraved on the product as it’s quite impossible to print on the surface.

How To Sell Coasters With Print On Demand

  1. Choose a niche for your designs

    • Some examples would be coasters designed with food patterns, hobbies or even motivating short quotes
    • Focus on your chosen niche for the next 100 designs!
  2. Do research on best selling and trendy designs
  3. Make your own designs or outsource
    • You can make your own designs using Kittl or Canva
    • If you want to buy designs, get them on Creative Fabrica or Envato Elements
    • Some important things to know are design file sizes and printing layout (if any)
  4. Sign up for an account with any of the sites I’ve listed above
    • You’ll have to create an account with one of the sites I’ve mentioned above to start selling
    • Choose one supplier that resonates to you the most with the right products you’ve envisioned for your kitchenware business
  5. Upload designs to products
    • Uploading designs to supplier’s products is super easy and you should be able to do this once an account is created
    • Position the design correctly when uploading as the actual product will look the same as what you see online
  6. Set a suitable profit margin for each product
    • On most sites, you should be able to set a selling price once you’ve done uploading the design
    • A suitable margin should be 40%-50% depending on the platform you’re selling on and any fees you’ll incur on each sale
    • This excludes shipping charges to customers!
  7. Sync them to your ecommerce store
    • You would need to integrate your ecommerce store e.g. Etsy or Shopify before you’re able to sell so do that first
    • Sync the ready product to your store to start selling them publicly
    • Sites like Redbubble, Zazzle and CafePress have their own marketplace for you to sell your products – so you don’t need a separate store to use them
  8. Start selling and repeat!
    • Repeat the process and you’ll get some sales with time!
    • Increase your chances of success by uploading more quality designs and using professional mockup tools like Placeit
    • Consider bringing in traffic to your store with ads (if you’re not selling on a marketplace)
