15 Best Print On Demand For Art Prints

1. Printify

There’s mainly two types of art prints you can design with Printify – fine art prints or giclee art prints. Giclée fine art printing is the best standards to get museum-quality prints which could last years. It uses archival quality inks making it a superior printing technique.

Printify offers their art prints in multiple sizes – from 11″ x 8″ and up to 24″ x 36″. They are made with matte finishing to allow easier cleaning and avoid creases. The major difference between the two art prints below is the window cut cardboard frame surrounding the print, paper thickness and sizing options.

Products are sourced from multiple suppliers all around the world. I would recommend Printify for beginners, thanks to their wide range products and cheap prices.

Here’s a sample of an art print I created on Printify using a simple design from Canva. There are size details for you to refer to in order to get the right dimensions when editing on Canva.

2. Printful

Although Printful does not offer any museum-quality art prints, you can design metal prints on the site. It is a more durable and long lasting printing material compared to paper-based art prints. The glossy look is also more favored for gifting others!

Metal art prints are generally more expensive, I wrote on the best site for metal prints here. So it’s hard to compare with Printify as Printify does not offer the same but if you’re curious, check out how to compare Printify’s and Printful’s prices here.

Printful’s metal prints are made of aluminum, comes in six sizes and are scratch & fade resistant. The major downside is the product can only be shipped within the USA.

3. Gelato

Confused on which art prints to go with? There’s a lot more to explore on Gelato. Instead of the usual canvas prints or paper prints, Gelato has aluminum prints, acrylic prints, foam prints and wood prints to offer.

Different materials give off a different texture and can be used to decorate different rooms or settings. Wood prints are best for a vintage look while acrylic ones are more suited for modern interiors. Gelato’s prints come in over 10 sizes and can be printed horizontally or vertically.

Much like Printify, Gelato fulfills orders in multiple countries which allows fast turnaround times (14 countries for acrylic!). Even if you’re selling in Southeast Asia, the fastest delivery time is expected to be just 5 days. Products are packed with hanging kit and screws, and bubble wrapped for extra safety.

4. Gooten

If you’re looking for more options for art prints, Gooten has a good range for you. Aside from giclee art prints, you can design premium art prints, professional prints, metal prints and framed prints.

Gooten is an ideal choice for experienced sellers as they require information on your experience at the sign up page to approve your application. Economy framed prints are their best-sellers and it is obvious that people like to buy art prints with frames! Its an added value that makes customers feel their purchase is worth it.

While it may be quite straightforward to design an art print as it’s only one sided, Gooten provides PSD and JPG templates for better accuracy. It is still useful as the sides will be folded onto a frame and won’t be visible from the front view – you’ll have to consider these areas when designing.

5. Prodigi

If you’re looking to sell paper-based art prints, Prodigi is one of the best site. They provide detailed specifications for all types of art prints offered including if it’s eco-friendly or vegan.

A4-sized art prints are shipped in envelopes while larger ones are shipped in cardboard tubes with recycled plastic ends. You can get their products on wholesale prices too – from £3.00 for budget art paper and from £7.00 for art prints with hanger.

While they ship some items from the USA, EU and AU, most products are fulfilled and shipped from the UK. Prodigi is one of the few sites that lets you order a sample pack – it contains a variety of mini-sized art prints, posters and canvas products.

Here’s a sample of Prodigi’s art prints that came with the sample pack I ordered from them. When I got them, they were entirely free of charge and included a great variety of mini-sized paper products!

Unless you’re looking for something premium, the budget art paper (second from right in image above) is good to go with. It’s not too thin or too thick and printed using giclée method with a matte finish.

6. Inprnt

If you’re a professional artist that wants to focus more on designing instead of selling, Inprnt is a great POD platform to work with. Application to join as an artist seller must be accompanied by your own sample artwork so it’s super easy if you already have a digital art portfolio. Otherwise, you’ll need an existing user to invite you to join.

Just like others above, Inprnt offers art prints on multiple materials including paper, canvas, acrylic and metal. You can offer the same of kind designs on each item and let customers decide. Their classic giclée art print is made with 100% cotton rag archival paper, printed with archival inks to get a gallery-quality product.

Depending on the orientation of your uploaded design, Inprnt will automatically provide dimensions of art print that it can be printed on. Aside from Inprnt, you should also consider these 13 POD marketplaces that are easy to start with. No website creation needed and no fuss!

7. Teelaunch

Remember when I said framed art prints sells best? Teelaunch just proves it right too! The only kind of art print you can design on their site is a framed art print and its available in 11 sizes. Customers can also choose the frame color between white, black and brown.

It’s not a bad idea to list a single type of item on your Etsy shop as it makes it simple for customers to decide what to buy. You also reduce the time it takes to setup your store and avoid headaches from handling multiple listings.

Most products on Teelaunch are printed and shipped from the USA – but not everything can be shipped outside of the country.

8. Awkward Styles

Though there are canvas prints you can design with Awkward Styles, there isn’t any paper-based art print you can make. However, just like Printful, Awkward Styles offer metal prints with multiple design orientations. They come in a single color, available in 11 sizes and ready to be hanged.

Similar to Printify, there’s a Pro plan you can subscribe to and save significantly more on product cost. I’ve not done an apple-to-apple comparison of Printify Premium and Awkward Styles Pro Plan (not Pro+) but both are priced the same at $25/month.

The only obvious difference is you only get to connect 10 online stores with Printify Premium compared to Awkward Styles Pro that lets you connect 12 stores.

9. Contrado

There are a few types of art prints you can design with Contrado including glass, wood and silk art prints. The silk art prints are much more expensive than any other, but its mounted on organic half panama cotton, includes a certification on the back and comes framed in black/white!

If you’re keen on making paper-based ones, choose their wall art instead. There’s a choice between two types of paper and both comes with a guaranteed fade resistance of 10+ years. That’s no surprise as most products on Contrado like rugs come with multiyear printing guarantees – that’s how you know you’re in good hands!

10. Redbubble

If you’re worried about uploading the same artwork on multiple sites, it’s not a problem to begin with. Thanks to non-exclusive rights, most POD marketplaces like Redbubble allow the same artwork to be sold on other sites. None of these sites own your designs and you have the freedom to use your art artwork the way you want to.

Redbubble is one of the easiest sites to use for beginners in print on demand. I started with the site myself and made sales even with below average designs (I was a newbie). You can design various types of art print on Redbubble (list below) and have designs uploaded to these products with just a single click.

One of the benefits of uploading to multiple sites is you get to diversify your revenue streams with no risk at all!

11. Bags Of Love

Most of the products seen on Bags Of Love is similar to the ones you can find on Contrado. Though Contrado is their parent company, Bags Of Love is geared towards serving UK audience as prices are displayed in GBP (British Pounds).

They also offer custom sized art prints, framed prints and fabric prints that are otherwise, unavailable on their parent site. BOL uses archival inks to produce museum standard high quality 300dpi prints on either smooth matte fine art paper 189 gsm OR textured matte fine art paper 310 gsm (your choice).

Another unique feature on BOL is you can design collage art prints by uploading multiple photos/designs on a single product.

12. Pwinty

Pwinty is a brand under Prodigi that can be used via Shopify or API. Although their catalog is limited, product pages are tied back to the parent’s site so you won’t have any doubts browsing.

It is reasonable to include Pwinty in this list as they primarily sell wall art including photographic art prints, fine art prints and framed prints.

Photographic art prints are slightly different to normal art prints as they print on glossy metallic papers. You can also download color profiles for each paper type to soft-proof images.

13. Society6

Society6 works just like Redbubble but it has a vibe of its own. If you’re a modern individual who loves hippie cheerful designs, Society6 is certainly the site for you. They also carry unique products like large-sized furniture, outdoor accessories and a wide range of kids products.

Besides the usual paper-based art prints, you can design acrylic art prints, mini art prints, canvas prints and metal prints. Some are available for both framed and unframed options.

Their floating acrylic prints are basically art prints fixed into the center of acrylic frames. Customers can choose between four sizes and select the stand-off finishing to be silver, gold or black. Price is slightly expensive but it’s great that they offer four interest-free installments to make it easier for customers!

You can find my list of pros and cons for Society6 here to see if it’s suitable for you.

14. Teespring (Spring)

Teespring or Spring is another popular POD marketplace, especially for online creators. Their marketplace isn’t the most optimized for sales and I personally find it incomplete compared to Redbubble and Society6. But, it’s the only marketplace that connects to social media platforms like YouTube, Discord and Instagram.

Aside from canvas art, there’s only a single type of art print you can sell with Teespring which is a metal print. It’s made of lightweight aluminum with rounded edges and available in three sizes. You can also sell posters, tapestries and pennants as wall art with Teespring.

It comes in multiple base colors for easier designing – you can check the sample metal print I’ve attached down below. It’s super easy to use and straightforward even if you’re a beginner.

15. Art Of Where

Other than posters, Art Of Where offers art prints using fine art printing or digital printing. The major difference between the two is the type of paper used, its texture and weight. You can also design tapestries and poster prints with AOW.

The three products seen below are available in 16 sizes, with some offered in 3 different standard ratios. For best printing results, it’s recommended that you provide a JPEG image in RGB color space.

AOW is one of my recommendations if you’re selling print on demand to a Canada-based audience. Products are made and shipped from their factory in Montreal, Canada. If you didn’t know, they have a unique take for products which is unseen anywhere else, including tote bags (find out why!).

Hey there! Abby here - the founder of Passive Marketeer and also the main writer on the site. My love for ecommerce and online marketing was something I found through my 9-5 sales job. It was mind boggling at first that we're able to make an income online passively in today's world! If you're still feeling that way, know that you're not alone.

That's why, I decided to help others by sharing findings through my own research on today's ecommerce world. When I'm not writing, I'm either running my online biz, traveling, cooking or gardening.
