Is Shopify A Print On Demand Service?
Shopify isn’t a print on demand service on its own. The ecommerce platform integrates with other print on demand sites such as Printify and Printful. A print on demand store can be set up on Shopify once it is integrated with these sites that supply, print and ship orders to customers for you.
26 Best Print On Demand For Shopify Integration
1. Printify
Printify will always be at the top of my list for POD sites and that’s because they offer so many integrations, you don’t have to even wonder. I find the site to be incredibly easy for newbies and the not so tech-savvy. There’s a long list of products you can sell so you’ll never run out of ideas. Though, as beginners, it’s always good to niche down and grow your expertise in one thing.
- Advantages
- Complete range of over 300 products for you to sell
- Simple dashboard with great user interface for beginners
- Able to save 20% more on each order with the Printify Premium subscription

- Great diversification with multiple printing factories to avoid production or shipping issues
- Bulk orders can enjoy discounted shipping
- Products are relatively cheaper compared to other POD sites
- Disadvantages
- High sales achievements not rewarded with monthly discounts or incentives
- Limited branding or labeling services compared to Printful
- Packaging cannot be customized

2. Printful
Your next go-to print on demand site for Shopify should be Printful. Just like Printify, their user interface is great for newbies and there’s plenty of resources on the net to learn how it works. Products are a little more expensive but it comes with superb quality and service – so it’s hard for you to be let down.
What sets it apart from Printify is the monthly discount rewarded to sellers for high sales achievement, starts from as low as $1,000 sales per month.

- Option to customize packaging with logo, flyers, business cards
- Better choices of products in some categories compared to Printify e.g. sportswear

Gelato promises fast shipping times for most international shipping with a minimum delivery timeline of 3 days. Once you get comfortable, consider getting the Gelato+ Gold yearly subscription for USD599 – it gets you free global shipping, free use of stock graphics and you can access Gelato’s premium products.

4. Printaura
A print on demand company that has long been in the market is Printaura. If you take a look at their website, you’ll definitely agree to it. Though it’s not updated to meet today’s user interface standards, Printaura offers great products at reasonable prices and people are still happy with their service. I don’t find their platform to be newbie friendly so it’s not for me – but that’s yours to judge!
- Advantages
- All international orders are shipped with USPS First Class for greater service
- Customers are provided with garment care card in each packaging for easy reference
- Sellers have the option to add on branding services at additional cost – branded stickers or business cards from $0.25 per order
- Product templates are downloadable to easily create mockups
- Costs of products are cheaper than Printful
- Disadvantages
- Quite difficult to learn how to use Printaura and its features as interface is quite old and outdated

6. Art of Where
Compared to others in this list, Art of Where (AOW) lets you sell directly on their website’s marketplace and integrate with other ecommerce platforms at the same time. This is quite similar to selling on POD marketplaces like Redbubble, Teespring, Zazzle, Society6 and Spreadshirt where your shop resides on the platform itself.
AOW also offers sample packs of their best products for you to test at a small price of $5 and $10. One of the few POD companies based in Canada!

7. Teelaunch
Teelaunch is a popular one among print on demand OGs just like Printaura. They have great products like basketballs and footballs where you can print on your own designs. Their website is a little too simple plus looks outdated for me and lacks information for newbies to explore. There’s limited info on how to use Teelaunch when Googled but you can find decent info guides on YouTube.
Feel free to judge yourself!
- Advantages
- Offers sport equipment for activities like football, rugby ball, soft ball and volley balls
- Products are printed and shipped from the USA and the UK
- Wide range of products at competitive prices

21. Apliiq
Not all POD sites incentivize their sellers when higher sales are achieved and I know it can get frustrating when they don’t. Apliiq is one of them that does! Higher sales can get you discounts, free shipping and even customized packaging. If you’re serious enough, they have a yearly subscription based plan to print and attach woven labels to your products (where applicable).
In case you want to stop, the subscription can be canceled and you can retrieve your unused woven labels then.

22. Fuel
This one has a different offering altogether – which can be great if you’re new to POD or new to the platform. Every new seller account on Fuel is entitled to intro prices for the first 30 days from signing up or first 50 orders – whichever comes first. It might not be so fun if you have never had experience with POD as 30 days is quite a short time to learn everything and implement for sales (especially if you’re doing this part-time). However, the savings can be a lot if you’re already a pro!
Giving discounted prices might just prove how confident the company is in their products/services – but that’s for you to try!
- Advantages
- Offers Intro Prices for seller’s first 30 days or 50 orders (you can save more than 50% of original price)
- Uses DTG, sublimation and embroidery on 40+ products
- 15 different colors available for embroidery as per this design guideline
- Super competitive prices even for normal pricing (only $6.40 for a Gildan shirt)
- Has a Vietnamese version of the website
- Accepts PayPal and major credit & debit cards for order fulfillment
- All orders within the US automatically use expedited shipping
- International shipping starts from $7.00 – ships worldwide excluding these 21 countries
- 10 factories located across the USA for production
- Disadvantages
- Not able to add any packing slips with a note
- Does not offer any customization for branding or personalization of products by customers
- Products are quite limited compared to others

24. Shirtigo
I’m pretty impressed by Shirtigo – although almost everything is in the German language. I translated their site via Google and found it quite cool. Their services are pretty complete just like Printify and Printful – although their catalog is very basic. If you’re serious about making money with shirts and hoodies, which are popular products for print on demand, you can make money with Shirtigo!
Of course, it would be super beneficial for you if you can read German.

25. Modalyst
Wix recommends using Modalyst as a print on demand service provider. They also make it known that Modalyst will be joining Wix. The platform is widely used for dropshipping services via AliExpress as the main product provider. Print on demand is just one of the things they offer as some sellers on AliExpress do offer product customization and merchandise printing.
- Advantages
- Multiple packages to choose from according to business needs for monthly or yearly payment
- Extensive range of products as most are sourced from AliExpress – millions of trendy products
- Official dropshipping partner of AliExpress

26. Ink POD
One of the few POD companies based in Asia. To be honest, it’s not a bad thing as almost everything is sourced from China. Shipping can be fast too but there is a risk of communication issues and hassle of returns (if any). I do love that they have a wide choice of print on demand shoes!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Question: What is the best Shopify theme for print on demand?
Answer: The best Shopify theme for a print on demand store should be free of charge and simple. Nothing beats keeping operational costs low in the beginning of any business. Upgrading to a paid theme e.g. Wokiee and Kalles can be considered later once sales are growing.
Check out: Over 20 best themes for a Shopify store
Question: Is Shopify print on demand profitable?
Answer: A Shopify print on demand store can be profitable with the right designs, products, pricing and advertising. Unlike Etsy where there’s a ready audience to sell to, a Shopify store is entirely independent and requires advertising costs to bring in traffic.
Question: Is Printify part of Shopify?
Answer: Printify is not part of Shopify. It acts as an independent print on demand service that can be integrated to a handful ecommerce platforms including Shopify, WooCommerce and Wix. Individuals are able to sell Printify’s products on these platforms, where orders are printed and shipped by Printify to customers.
Question: How does SPOD work on Shopify?
Answer: SPOD works on Shopify via integration of your Shopify store and your SPOD account. Install the SPOD Shopify app to import products to your shop. Orders placed on Shopify will sync automatically to SPOD for fulfillment. SPOD will only charge the product base cost plus shipping charges to customers.
Bottom Line
Starting a print on demand store on Shopify is as easy as ABC with the right integration. I generally recommend using Printify for anyone new in the field. It’s easy to use, there’s a lot of products to offer and you can find all kinds of help be it on their site or from independent sellers making videos on YouTube.
You can always upgrade or switch to other POD fulfillment later on according to your business needs (once you’ve figured what they are)!
